And just like that, it was over.

Made the mistake of listening to this while writing this post: Listen while reading

How did I get here?
I'm 21 years old. Every college kid's dream age.
Why was this the day that I had come to dread?
I was about to return to everything that I had ever know, while at the same time leaving everything that I had grown to love.

The day began at 6:00 am on June 23rd. Sarah, Jacinta, and I woke up and gathered all of our crap together (mostly my crap). I ate a little more chocolate cake for breakfast than needed but, hey, it was my birthday. Finally, at 6:30 we headed off to the bus stop. I should mention that, by this point in my trip, my largest piece of luggage had only one wheel and weighed around 53 lbs. Manoeuvring it to the bus stop while the bottom of it was creating sparks on the sidewalk was a difficult feat.

We finally arrived at the bus stop. Three girls, two suitcases, and a large backpack. The bus ride to the airport was around four hours long. I was expecting to sleep for most of it, but we just ended up talking and recounting the last four months.

And then we arrived. I made my way to the check-in counter where I found out that my check-on bag was a little over-weight. It had to have been my lucky day because the guy working allowed me to check it on anyways because he saw on my passport that it was my birthday. Thank you guy who was at the United desk but didn't work for United. You made one girl very relieved.

Then it was time.
The time that I had pretended wasn't going to happen.
Goodbyes.
I found it quite funny how the hallway to the international area of the airport was paved with red carpet. It seemed almost exclusive, in a daunting way.
There, in front of that elegant red carpet, I hugged my two best friends for the last time. We exchanged notes and quite a few tears. As I walked down the carpet and turned back to see them for the last time, it felt as though something inside of me broke. A piece of my heart fell from the hole in my pocket and will remain with them forever.

Fourteen hours. One movie (The Awkward Moment), three meals, four Diet Cokes, six episodes of Sex and the City, and 45 minutes of sleeping later, I was in Los Angeles.
I must mention that I departed Australia at 11:20 am on June 23rd and arrived in LA at 10:20 am on June 23rd. Back to the future, right Sarah?

I had a five hour layover, so my fabulous cousin, Kelci, came and picked me up in her convertible and drove me around LA. I couldn't have asked for a better 21st birthday than the one that I had. I got to see the Hollywood sign (which you can see from her apartment balcony!). And that was the least of the exciting moments.

We picked up her friend Chelsea and headed to "brunch." Although our brunch consisted of peach bellinis. Which also doubled as the first legal alcoholic drink that I had ever drank in America.
After drinks, we went to a little gem of a massage parlour and all three of us got massages. After a 14 hour flight, a full body massage felt like pure ecstasy.
Thank you, Kelc, for giving me such an amazing 21st birthday. <3

We then went to pick up her dog, Tinkerbell, and we were off to the airport. Once there, we ran into a major bump in the road. Kelci wasn't going to be able to get on the flight with me because somehow we were "late." She was able to get on the following flight, so I had to make it through security quickly to make it to my own flight. To my annoyance, I got stopped before the security line because my carry-on was "too wide." So very quickly, I had to open it and remove my tennis shoes to wear through security. By this time, I was getting very flustered when I had to put all of my things through the security check. Only to find out that they would have to run my backpack through again because I forgot to remove my laptop. While waiting for it to scan, I heard the last call for my flight to Chicago. Finally, once everything was through, I took off towards my terminal at a fast walk. Over the intercom I heard, "Alixandra Badly-Pronounced-Last-Name" please make your way to the departure gate."
And that's when I realised I was that girl.
The one who would have to run down the terminal.
And off I went.

Sweating, I took my seat on the plane and proceeded to pass out for the entire four hours to Chicago.
The plane landed.
I was in Chicago.
When I left this plane I would see my parents.
I saw my dad first. He was wandering around.
And then, I saw my mom come in through the doors.
That I was happy to see them was an understatement.
We got my bags and waited for Kelci's flight to get in. We arrived at my Aunt and Uncle's house at around 2:30 am. At this time, everybody was asleep and I was in dire need of a shower. Before that though, my mom said that she had a surprise for me. She handed me a package that had Jacinta's name on it, but my address. I opened it and found a beautiful Australia necklace that I haven't taken off since (well except when I shower of course). Thank you Sarah and Cinta. <3

The next morning I woke up and my mom said she had one last surprise for me and she went upstairs. I heard a door open, then a tiny voice asking, "Is she here? She's back from Australia?" And I knew it was my three little peanuts. I thought they would have gone home by that time but there they were, ready for me to hug too hard and spoil with their gifts from Australia.

Then we; Mom, Dad, Eric, Kelci, Tink, and I left on our five hour drive home. I told myself to stay awake the whole day so that I could sleep that night, and I succeeded...until I got home and slept for a solid four hour nap.

The next morning I woke up, wide awake, at 4:00 am, so I watched the sunrise. The jetlag got periodically better. The next day I woke at 5:00 am, and the next at 6:00 am.
I have to say that I didn't mind being up with the sunrise.

Do I have to leave?

For no one's entertainment but my own,
here is a list of things I am looking forward to having when I return to America
(although, most of it I am willing to live without if it means staying in Aus close to my friends)

1. This list of food:
Goldfish, Diet Mt. Dew, Mom's homemade pizza, Dad's homemade orange chicken stir-fry as well as his drunken chicken, strawberries from the strawberry patch, and homemade chicken noodles. Yuuuuummmmmmmmmm.

2. The convenience of having my car.

3. More than one outlet so I can charge more than one electronic device at a time. Also, not having to use a converter.

Funny story about this: I had a dream the other night that I was at my old high school, sitting and staring at a power-point. People kept walking past and asking what I was doing and I just kept repeating, "it's so different." I guess that's my subconscious noting the impending reverse culture shock?

American vs.Australian

4. A job which equals money, because I am honestly and truly broke. Not in an "haha I'm a broke college student" type of way, in an actual "I have $0.00 in my bank account because I spent it all in Australia" type of way.

5. Summer = Sun = Tan (no one wants to see me pale...it's pretty scary).

6. My kitties and dogs to cuddle with.

7. Lastly, being in the same time-zone as (2/3rds) of the people that I love most in this world. (If you hadn't guessed...I'd be leaving the other 3rd...)

idle thoughts.

Have you ever just wondered, what am I doing wrong? Why is nothing I ever do good enough? Well I do constantly. I wonder why I have never been "the best" at anything. I wonder how someone can be so completely average. I realised just recently that it was because I was trying to fit myself into this Alix-shaped box that everyone had of me...or was it an Alix-shaped box that I had of myself? I had to stop classifying myself as one thing or another. For my whole life, I've always been the type to gauge things from one extreme to another. Either I was extraordinary at something or I was terrible at it, and since I wasn't extraordinary at anything, my default setting was to think I was terrible at it. I realise now that I have spent more than half my life hating myself for things out of my control. I have held myself back from life changing opportunities based solely on my fears. I recently read a quote that struck a chord somewhere deep inside me.

"But what if I fall?"
"Oh but my darling, what if you fly?"

I am not entirely sure what it was about this that affected me so much...it just seemed as though this unknown person was speaking directly to me. I'm not going to spew cliches like "life's too short..." or "you've only got one life," but I will say this: Think about how old you are now. Most of you are probably around 20 or so. On average, that's about a fourth or so of your life. You've only got 3/4 of your life left to do everything you've dreamt of doing. Why waste that time afraid and resenting yourself for it?

Here are some videos from the concert the other night. I won't try and explain the quality, you can hear that for yourselves.

#PartyAnimal #Not

Here are just a couple glimpses into what's been going on here in Warrnambool for the last week since I've returned from Perth. Some pretty gosh darn exciting stuff if I do say so myself. Gosh, I'm such a party animal. That's me; the outroverted socialite...

Lunar eclipse!!! I got some pretty shit photos, but you get the gist. (No, I wasn't able to see the solar eclipse, it was stormy that day).

Sarah and Jacinta sometimes think that they are artists and I would have to agree with them on that. Anyone who can turn me into butterfly, Princess Jasmine, AND a mermaid must be an artistic genius.

Just before heading off to Perth, we had a Res Dodgeball tournament. Dodgeball was my specialty back in the day. When I walked into the gym and the balls were set up on the line, I knew that it was going to be a good day. It was every house for themselves...and only Jacinta and I had shown up for our house. We recruited Rhoe, so it would at least be 3 on 6. We proved that we don't need more than 3 people on our team and beat 3 (?) teams on our own. I even ended one game triumphantly with a (all luck) double play by catching Jake's ball and hitting Evan on the back. At least dodgeball can be the one thing that I'm good at...

Also before Perth, we had a themed "party" night called "Tradies and Ladies." Here in Aus, they call construction workers, plumbers, gardeners, etc. tradies (tradesmen). You were supposed to dress as either a tradie or a lady...and I chose a tradie because I'm probably the least lady-like lady that you'll ever meet. Some guys decided to go the lady route, like Aiden in his beautiful black dress and Grub, who went all out with pigtails and wearing Georgia's jellies.

Sarah and I had another "town/date day," and got chips and thickshakes at Figsellers (effing delicious), and spent longer than intended in the bookstore.
So many words.
 So many pages.
Books > Shoes

Also, coming into my room and getting in my bed must be a roommate thing (TARA)? Because, Jacinta and Sarah seem to do that often. Not that I mind...as long as Jacinta doesn't make that creepy smiling face anymore...

They also love their gifts that my mom sent them :D

Who knew that the DUSA bookstore sold the Clap? If you don't have it yet, rush to the bookstore and you can now buy your VERY OWN clap microbe.
Siri, being the thoughtful lady she is, wished me good luck on my Aquatic Ecology test the other day. How did I ever get so lucky?

Hopkins Falls is not far from res and Sarah and I had never been there, so her friend, Ash, took us there between rain storms. The falls were very picturesque with the cows roaming in the background, not giving any ffffss. I was even delightfully surprised by a rainbow appearing in the background of some of the photos.

Pictured below: Kettle and a Kettle. Which one is which? The world may never know... (God, I'm such a freak).

"That was just a burp..."
Movie night! Charli, Sarah, Paige, Ash, and I all went to see The Other Woman last week and it was actually hilarious. I have always loved Cameron Diaz and Kate Upton was not as bad as I thought she might be. Definitely 10/10 would recommend.

We also had a humorous run in with the police on the way home. They were doing standard breathalyser tests on the way home because of the May Races, so we had to pull over so Paige could get breathalysed.  So she blows in the apparatus, and the cop says, "Hmmm...you're going to have to do it again because either you didn't blow hard enough or you sucked." After that, none of us could keep it in and the whole car was cracking up, while the cop was trying his hardest not to laugh. After we drove away, we could see him and all the other cops giggling about what had happened. It took everything in our power not to make any crude jokes while the cop was still there.

The next night was May Races night/#BenWatson's birthday/Gabby's birthday so I had to go all out right?

**Birthday Princess Gabby**

Saturday, Jacinta played netball at the new courts on res, so Sarah and I decided to go support her...too bad there was a torrential downpour happening at the same time as their game. We bundle up and braved the walk to the courts, where Cinta had parked her car so we could watch in the dryness.

We saw a mushroom fairy ring on the way home=good luck!!

The weather here has been pretty shit lately. Unexpected rain showers and storms, and in the case of the other night, some pretty nasty hail.

I broke out my henna a couple nights ago and doodled all over myself, Jacinta, and Sarah. So that was fun.

This is what happens when studying gets the best of you, you give up:

Disregard the absolutely disgusting, close-up picture of me and focus on the fact that a spider/bug of some sort decided that my eyebrow would be a great place to have a snack.

Saw this ugly thing in the gas station last night. What? You shouldn't be here.
"Put that thing back where it came from, so help me, so help me, and CUT!" -sang in the voice of Mike Wasowski.

Watched some basketball last night. Felt like I was in high school again. It's so much more interesting when you know who's playing. All that NBA and NCAA crap is boring.

Blair throwin' that ish up.

Jack free-throwing like a BAMF.

Rhoe guarding and shit.

Jacinta going HAM.

Meng (aka KOBE) juking the mullet man.

Jimmy's so fast you can't even see his long blonde hair flowing in the wind.

Jacinta and Sarah decided to note-bomb my room last night while I was in the shower. I may say I hated it, but I really loved it. <3
